Let's take a moment to explore the concept of a geospatial blog. A geospatial blog is defined as:

A geospatial blog is a type of website, usually maintained by an individual with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics or video. Each entry has been tagged with the author's geographic coordinates and is commonly displayed on a map.

ProBlogger provides a great article on how to geotag your website, however the solution that is lacking currently is for the ability to geotag an individual blog entry.

Let's Go To the Park

You visit a new park each week, take some pictures and write a brief ditty about your experience. It would nice if you could do this on your PDA while you are at the park and geotag the entry so that it instantly displays on a map on your site. But let's take this one step further. In addition, we want other park-bloggers form a community of people that will provide information about each park in their area. After a little while, you could have a full fledged information directory on all of the parks in your county, state or even the country.

This may be a simplified example, but say we applied the same geotag blog concept to real estate. Think about the power that could be behind a solution like that.

UPDATE

Using Web Engine to GeoBlog

In addition to Web Engine's powerful blogging functionality, you can now blog from the comfort of your own PDA and post a geotagged blog with pictures and videos. I liked this concept so much that, after I wrote the blog, I decided it was worth some time to build it into the infrastructure. Contact me if you are interested in starting up a geoblog of your own.
